About Us
Since launching in January 2014, Lighthouse West Yorkshire has been committed to supporting some of the most vulnerable and marginalised people in Leeds. We offer a welcoming, inclusive space where people can experience community, hope, and the love of Jesus.
Weekly Gatherings
Our Sunday service at St George’s Crypt combines storytelling, scripture, prayer, testimony, and song, followed by a freshly prepared hot meal. Often attended by 70+ people, this is a space where many find a spiritual home, whether they’ve never felt at ease in mainstream church or are exploring faith for the first time.
Throughout the week, we run a range of regular sessions across various city centre locations—including St George's Church, Leeds Minster, and St John's Church Briggate—offering safe spaces for relaxation, creativity, learning, and pastoral support. These sessions foster connection, provide recovery-focused support, and meet practical needs.
Pastoral Support
We seek to journey with and support individuals through all kinds of life challenges, offering:
Visits to prisons, courts, hospitals, or homes
Support with applications and transport to Christian rehabilitation communities
Accompanied visits and signposting for foodbanks, housing, and medical appointments
Mental health crisis and suicide intervention
One-to-one pastoral care
Street outreach
Training, Collaboration & Leadership
We are always looking to support others in their training & ministries, and enjoy working in partnership with churches and organisations. Our initiatives include:
Lighthouse Internship – a year-long placement to grow, serve, and learn practical ministry skills
Mission, Theology & Ministry for the Margins – an online course in partnership with Leeds School of Theology
Team training & placements – equipping church leaders to serve their own communities effectively
At Lighthouse, we strive to be a community that loves, serves, and shares generously, helping people find hope, purpose, and belonging.

More than 150 people call Lighthouse their church. It is a safe haven and a place of hope for those who attend – many of our regular participants refer to Lighthouse as their family.
The Covid19 pandemic has seen Lighthouse adapt in the way we provide care & support.
Our new Day Centres have proved crucial in serving some of the most vulnerable in our community, as highlighted in our survey below:
Since its founding in January 2014, Lighthouse has served over 18,000 hot meals, seen 75+ people go to residential rehab communities, and held more than 600 services. We’ve witnessed 90+ baptisms and reaffirmations of faith, & supported individuals with hundreds of home visits, hospital, court and prison visits.
